Black Owned Hair Care Staples

ree

My experience shopping black owned started with hair care. While I have been natural my whole life, I didn’t realize how many products were out there that are made for us by us! If you’ve been on my page for a while, you know I talk about hair products pretty often. Some might even call me a “product junkie”. However, when it comes to my hair care, there are some products I just need to have on hand no matter what. In this guide, I hope to give you a little insight on products that I love and keep in stock in my household. Check them out and let me know what you think 🤎

NO. 1: Tried & True: 🍍💗ALIKAY NATURALS💗🍍

Alikay Naturals holds a special place in my heart because it is one of the first black owned hair care brands I started using and it’s stayed in my collection ever since. I love that I can use products from their collection on both my hair and my partner’s hair with JUICY results. It’s also one of the only brands that I have been able to try a majority of their hair care collection and there is not a single product that I didn’t love. If I had to recommend a few, they would be: 🍍Honey & Sage Deep Conditioner 🍍Lemongrass Super Twisting Butter 🍍Shea Yogurt 🍍Caribbean Coconut Milk Shampoo & Conditioner NO. 2 One Size Doesn’t Fit All: PATTERN BEAUTY

I ended up trying the shampoo, medium conditioner and leave in conditioner from Pattern Beauty 2 years ago. I keep Pattern around for 3 reasons: 1. There are different conditioners for different textures and it is laid out clearly. 2. Size Ranges: Almost every product comes in multiple sizes from travel to “Jumbettes” (basically their family size). I can keep my travel bag stocked with little hassle and I can keep the larger sizes in the house because my partner and I both use the shampoo and conditioner. You can bring Pattern wherever you go literally. 3. The way it moisturizes my hair and allows me to layer with other products is top tier. No strong smells either!

NO. 3 Heated Deep Conditioning: GLOW BY DAYE

Glow by Daye is a go to for hair tools and accessories. Their silk lined shower cap and hooded dryer are definitely in my collection but the Holy Grail for me is the Heated Deep Conditioning Cap. Benefits of the Deep Conditioning Cap for me: 🚿It’s so easy to use, just microwave and go! 🚿Because it doesn’t need to be plugged in, it allows you the ability to move around as you’re deep conditioning. I like to get chores done while it sits. 🚿That added heat really locks in moisture and shine and I love the results so much better than when I just do a regular deep condition. NO. 4 Detangling Made Easy: CURLTASTIC WONDERBRUSH💙

My least favorite part of washing my hair used to be detangling. Using a wide tooth comb did the job but it was tedious and sometimes painful. Curltastic changed the game for me with the Wonderbrush. Why do I love this brush? 💙 It’s quick and easy detangling 💙 Does a more thorough detangling job by using the brush both horizontally and vertically 💙 I’m left with more defined curls after usage

NO. 5 Dry with Ease‍: WELL TRESSED

Did you know that you aren’t supposed to use the same types of towels on your hair that you use on your body? It causes breakage and dryness and leaves your hair frizzy. For a while, I was using tshirts to dry my hair as an alternative until earlier this year when I came across Well Tressed at a Bazaar in Detroit. Well Tressed Hair Towels became a necessity. First of all, No Frizz! The biggest benefit outside of that is it stays on your head! The hook in the back provides stability and I don’t feel like I’m practicing a balancing act on my head anymore lol.

NO. 6 Collections on Point: 🫐✨CURLS ✨🫐

Curls is always on point with the collections but Blueberry Bliss was the first one I tried and stuck with. It smells fantastic to me. My favorite product though and the one I keep on me always in the Blueberry Bliss Curl Control Paste. I keep it around because: 🫐It doesn’t flake whether my hair is curly or straight 🫐No drying out my hair ! My hair still feels moisturized after I use it 🫐That hold is top notch and I don’t feel like I’m sacrificing hold for moisture and vice versa. I will say the one thing that I miss from Curls is their Cashmere and Caviar Collection. You think they’ll bring it back again ? 👀

NO. 7 : Power Styling: MIELLE ORGANICS💗

I love Mielle for their collections as well but what I really love is that I can pull different products from each collection and use them how I need to. The styling products are always a go to and I have never been disappointed. The one product I have to keep on hand no matter what products I try, is the White Peony Leave In Conditioner🤍. You want baby soft curls? USE THAT! I have also used it along with heat protectant as my moisturizer before doing my own silk press and I love the results. Mielle does have what I like to call a hidden gem: their Oats and Honey Collection for Sensitive Scalp🌾. It has become a staple in my household especially after I take out a protective style!

NO. 8 Scalp Refresh: Sunday 2 Sunday 🖤

When I started working out, one thing I noticed was that my scalp was always so sweaty and itchy afterwards. I hated having to come home and feel like I couldn’t make it to wash day because I want to work out. Well that’s when I found Sunday II Sunday and I just went for it. At first I was only using it after workouts but then I tried it in between wash days as well and I never looked back. The Revive Me and Root Refresh sprays are my two favorite products. Here’s why: ‑ They help loosen build up and leave the scalp feeling fresh even between washing ‑ Products are lightweight so it can be used with other styling products without leaving the hair too heavy.

NO. 9 Hydration for Daysss: Camille Rose Honey Hydrate 🍯

Wanna talk about ultimate hydration?! Well, this right here is it!! I use several products from Camille Rose but the Honey Hydrate is one of my favorites to date. Honey Hydrate is a staple for me because it: ‑ keeps my hair hydrated and moisturized for days 💦 ‑ leaves my hair soft and easier to style 🧈 ‑ smells delicious 🍯😋 Definitely recommend! Also, if you are looking for a great Camille Rose styling product, the Almond Jai Twisting Butter is a hit and I keep it on hand as well!

NO. 10 Locking In Growth: Kreyol Essence 🤎💗

I am obsessed with hair oils! I do make my own oil blends catered to my hair needs from time to time. When I’m not making my oil blends, however, I’m using this: the Kreyol Essence Haitian Black Castor Oil ( Chocolate Vanilla scented is my favorite). This oil not only smells amazing but it gets the job done when it comes to locking in moisture and hair growth. I cannot stress how important this oil has become to my routine especially now that I have a more demanding work schedule and I don’t have time to make my own. While I’m still relatively novice when it comes the Kreyol Essence brand, one of my other go tos is their Drench Me Co‑Wash! It smells delicious and it’s actually the only co wash I’ve ever liked! I do have my eye on a few of their other products including: 💗OMG,Curl Crème 💗 Slip + Shine Serum 💗Love Me Leave In Conditioner Thank You! Thanks so much for checking out this guide! While these are not all of the products or brands I love, I definitely wanted to share my faves! I hope you were able to find products to add to your routine. Be sure to check out my page for more product recommendations and reviews.
